About myself

Listen to the composition and then do the exercise.

My name is Athina and I come from Koromylia, a beautiful village in Kastoria in the north west of Greece.

My father’s name is Stathis and my mother’s name is Eleni. I have got two brothers. They are older than me.

I am a student at Maniakoi Elementary School. My school is big and new. There are large, sunny classrooms, a computer room, a theatre and a library where we can borrow books to read. There is also a big playground where we play games. There is a basketball court and a football field.

I like all subjects at school but my favourite subject is History because I learn a lot of things about Ancient Greece. I also like Maths and English very much.
My best friend at school is Klara. She isn’t from Greece. She is Albanian.  We play together every day and we often go to the cinema on Sundays.

I love my village a lot and I want to live here for ever.

My Classroom.

Listen and read carefully. Then do the exercise.

Here is a picture of my classroom. This room is great for many reasons. First, it is a big, new classroom. I tell my students not to eat or drink in class so that the classroom will stay clean. I also like the large window that lets in a lot of light. There is also a large whiteboard, so my students and I can do exercises and check the answers together. There is a computer connected to the internet that I use to show pictures on a big screen and to play music. My students love to be able to listen to music during our break. We have long tables that fit two students comfortably. Everything looks new in this room. My students and I really like my classroom.

What I do on Saturdays.

I’ve got lots of free time on Saturdays. Every Saturday I wake up early and I have breakfast. After breakfast, I often go running at the sports centre. Then I go home and draw in my bedroom.

At one o’ clock I have lunch. After lunch, I watch television and then I usually play football in the park with my friends.

In the evenings I usually listen to music and then I draw again. Drawing is my favourite hobby. Sometimes my cousin comes to see me. At night I always read a book before I go to sleep.

Travelling by plane.

Listen to the composition.

Travelling by plane.

Many people travel by plane every day, but is flying fun?

There are lots of good things about travelling by plane. It’s exciting and you travel very fast. You can also look out of the window and see the clouds. Sometimes you can watch a film on a plane too. Last week I went to London by plane. It was great.

There are some bad things about flying too. The tickets are usually expensive. Also, sometimes you must wait for many hours before you get on a plane. Waiting is boring. Some people feel ill when they fly too. They feel worse when the weather is bad. My mum went to Scotland by plane last year and it was very windy. She felt really bad.

I think flying is fun. It’s better than travelling by other kinds of transport. Planes are faster and more interesting. I am going to travel by plane when I go on holiday next year.

An exciting spring day.

An exciting spring day. ( New Editions - Skills Booster 2 )

Last week, my parents decided to take my brother and me for a day out. We woke up early on Saturday morning. It was a warm, sunny day. Mum made some sandwiches and we got into the car at half past nine.

One hour later, we were in the forest. There were beautiful flowers everywhere and the birds were singing. There were some clouds and Mum said, “We haven’t brought an umbrella, but it hasn’t rained for weeks.  ”We got out of the car and went for a walk. Suddenly I heard a loud noise. I looked up at the sky. It wasn’t blue anymore and the sun wasn’t shining. It was cloudy. “Look at those clouds. There’s going to be a storm!” my brother said. It started raining and we ran to the car. We were all wet and cold.

On our way home, the sun came out again. There weren’t many clouds in the sky. “Look! There’s a rainbow, “Mum said. “I’ve never seen a huge rainbow like that, “my brother said. We stopped the car near a lake and had a picnic before we went home. It was a great day!

A Letter to a Friend.

Listen to the text. / Άκουσε το κείμενο.

Dear Harry,

Hi! It's now 4 o'clock in the afternoon and I'm sitting in the living room writing this letter. It's a lovely day outside. The weather is great. The sun's shining and the birds are singing. My dog, Paddles, is sitting beside me and looking at me with her big brown eyes. The eyes are asking me for some food. But I'm not giving her anything because she's getting fat.

I'm learning Spanish now at evening college. My Spanish is improving slowly. I like my teacher. She's doing an excellent job. I'm really enjoying my class.

I hope you are well and happy and that your family is also well. Please write to me soon.

Bye for now,
Jenny

Yesterday was a lovely day. I went on a picnic with my family. We drove to Oatly Park. The weather was warm and sunny. We sat on the grass under a tree and had a delicious lunch. It was very pleasant.
After lunch, we went for a walk around the park and talked. On the way home we stopped at a cafe for afternoon tea. It was delicious, too. We had a very nice day.

What will I be? ( Fun way 3 )

What will I be?
Sometimes I wonder about my life in future. What will my life be like twenty or thirty years from now? Will I still live here? Will I still have all my friends? Will I be happy?
Well, when I finish school I’ll probably go to university and I will study to be a doctor. Then maybe I’ll be a “flying doctor” for a few years. I’ll visit other countries and I’ll try to help children and people who need help. When I finally return home, I’ll probably get a job at the local hospital. And, who knows, maybe some day I’ll have a family, too. I like children, so I hope I’ll have children of my own. I’ll be a good mother to them. I’ll love them and take care of them. I’ll also have a nice house with a swimming pool and a beautiful garden. I’ll spend a lot of time in that garden, taking care of my flowers as my parents do now. Or I’ll just sit there reading books or playing with the children.
It’ll be great.

Meet my dog.

( Skills Booster 1 - New Editions)

Listen:

My dog.
My dog is called Sugar and he’s three years old. He’s big and black and he’s got a long tail. He’s got long ears too.
I must take Sugar for a walk every day. I take him to the park with my dad. Sugar can run fast but he can’t catch balls. Sugar must eat lots of meat, but he mustn’t eat ice cream. He must drink lots of water too. He sleeps in my bedroom.
I love Sugar because he’s friendly and clever. When I’m sad, he makes me happy again!

A fairy tale.

Listen to the text: Part 1.

Once upon a time there was a King and a Queen. They lived in a lovely golden castle and had a beautiful daughter, Margaret. But Margaret was very unhappy. She never laughed or smiled. “We will give a ring to the person who can make Margaret happy,” said the Queen. A musician came and played the guitar, a fairy said a magic spell, and a joker told jokes, but Margaret did not smile or laugh.

Listen to the text: Part 2.

A young carpenter came to work at the Queen’s castle. He came with his little monkey. The little monkey liked to play. One day Margaret saw the monkey and started to smile – then she laughed. The Queen heard her daughter laugh and saw the little monkey. The monkey was happy to get a ring as a present.

How I spend my weekends.

Listen to the text.

I usually spend my weekends with my friends.
When the weather is good I spend the weekends in the country or by the sea. On Saturday evening I make arrangements and early Sunday morning I leave my house feeling very happy. I go out in order to forget all my school problems and to regain strength for the coming week.
However, when the weather is bad, I spend my weekend indoors. On Sunday mornings I sleep until ten o’ clock; after that I get up and go to a friend’s house. In the evening I watch television and at about eleven o’ clock I go to bed.
This is how I spend my weekends.

I make arrangements = κάνω προετοιμασίες.
regain strength = επαναποκτώ δύναμη.
